Difteria, tetanus, polio, pertussis

Children receive obligatory vaccinations against diphtheria (Di-Per-Te) several times since infancy which are due at certain ages. The level of adults’ immunity decreases with age, therefore to people travelling to countries where the disease is well spread, the Di-Per-Te combined immunization (diphtheria, polio and tetanus) is suggested.

For whom should it be considered?

  • Primarily people travelling to developing countries, where the vaccinations are not available, or where because of other reasons the vaccinations of childhood have been omitted (e.g. because of religious reasons).
  • Microbiologists working in laboratories

When is it contraindicated?

  • In case of having an illness with fever
  • In case of severe allergic symptoms after receiving vaccination against diphtheria earlier

What kind of side effects may occur when receiving the diphtheria vaccination?

Temporary local redness at the place the vaccination has been given, swelling, slight pain, possibly fever may occur during 1-2 days.

How long is the protection period?

Re-vaccination is needed in every 10 years
